## Overview

This design system captures the visual language of a terminal-inspired landing page for Fresh, a text editor. The page immerses visitors in a developer-centric aesthetic through a pure black canvas, monospace typography throughout, and strategic use of bright syntax-highlighting colors borrowed from code editors. The hero dominates with a large pixel-art wordmark rendered in green, immediately signaling the product's terminal heritage. Below, the page alternates between feature narratives with inline highlighted keywords and a practical installation section, culminating in an embedded product screenshot that demonstrates the editor in action. The overall impression is utilitarian yet polished—functionality presented with the visual vocabulary of the tools its audience already uses daily.

## Colors

The color system is deliberately constrained, built on a near-black canvas with light gray primary text and a small palette of saturated accents that evoke syntax highlighting in a dark code theme.

| token | value | use |
|---|---|---|
| canvas | `#000000` | Page background, all section surfaces |
| ink | `#e2e2e2` | Primary body text, headings, descriptions |
| muted-ink | `#a0a0a0` | Secondary text, captions, terminal chrome labels |
| accent-green | `#1abc9c` | Primary brand color, hero logo, "Easy To Use" tag, installation commands, inline keywords like "Menu" and "Command Palette" |
| accent-blue | `#5dade2` | Section headings, "GitHub" links, "TypeScript" keyword, terminal menu bar |
| accent-yellow | `#f4d03f` | "Light And Fast" tag, "Huge File Support" tag, highlighted phrases like "light and fast" and "huge files" |
| accent-purple | `#af7ac5` | "TypeScript Extensible" tag, "TypeScript" keyword in feature text |
| accent-orange | `#e67e22` | Terminal status bar, warning indicators |

The relationship between colors follows a dark-mode code editor convention: black canvas minimizes eye strain for the target developer audience, light ink ensures readability, and the accent colors appear sparingly to draw attention to keywords, tags, and interactive elements. No light mode or photographic tint system is present. The embedded terminal screenshot introduces its own internal palette—blues for selected items, greens for strings, reds for errors—but these remain contained within the screenshot component rather than expanding the site-wide token set.

## Typography

The entire page uses a single monospace family, reinforcing the terminal and code-editor identity. No proportional type appears in any visible element.

| token | family | size | weight | leading | tracking | use |
|---|---|---:|---:|---:|---:|---|
| hero-display | monospace | 6rem | 700 | 1 | 0.05em | Main "FRESH" pixel-art logo |
| section-display | monospace | 1.5rem | 700 | 1.2 | 0.02em | Feature block headings like "Discovery & Ease of Use" |
| body | monospace | 1rem | 400 | 1.6 | 0 | Paragraph descriptions, installation instructions |
| label | monospace | 0.875rem | 700 | 1.4 | 0.04em | Tag pills like "Easy To Use", "TypeScript Extensible" |
| code-inline | monospace | 0.9375rem | 700 | 1.5 | 0 | Highlighted inline keywords and command strings |

The hero display at 6rem creates an iconic, poster-like presence for the pixel-art wordmark. Section display at 1.5rem establishes clear hierarchy for feature narratives without competing with the hero. Body text at 1rem maintains comfortable reading length for descriptions. The label style at 0.875rem appears in the tag row beneath the hero, set in bold with slight positive tracking for emphasis. Code-inline at 0.9375rem renders installation commands and highlighted feature keywords with bold weight to distinguish them from surrounding body text.

Verify licensing for these families before production use. No specific font attribution is supplied.

## Layout

The page follows a single-column centered layout with generous horizontal margins. Content blocks stack vertically with consistent rhythm, creating a scrolling narrative that moves from brand introduction through feature explanation to practical installation guidance.

The hero section occupies the full viewport width with centered alignment. The pixel-art logo spans most of the horizontal space, followed by a centered tagline and a horizontal row of tag pills separated by vertical bars. Below the hero, a subtle horizontal rule divides the introduction from the body content.

Feature blocks appear as stacked sections, each containing a bold heading followed by a paragraph. The headings and body text share left alignment, with the body indented slightly or set with consistent left margin relative to the heading. No sidebar, card grid, or multi-column layout appears in the feature sections.

The installation section introduces a two-column grid for the four installation methods, breaking the single-column pattern for practical information density. Each method pairs a bold label with a command string below. A final line spans the full width beneath the grid.

The terminal screenshot sits as a full-width embedded image near the bottom, framed by a thin border that separates it from the page background. This element functions as both demonstration and visual anchor, its internal complexity contrasting with the page's otherwise minimal structure.

Spacing between major sections measures approximately 4rem, while gaps within sections run at 2rem. The base unit of 0.25rem provides fine-grained control for smaller adjustments.

## Visual language

The visual identity derives from terminal emulation and code editor aesthetics, translated into a marketing page context. The pixel-art logo is the most distinctive element—blocky, geometric letterforms with internal horizontal striations that suggest scan lines or terminal character rendering. This logo appears only in the brand green, never recolored.

Syntax highlighting as prose styling is the second defining characteristic. Rather than treating code as separate blocks, the page sprinkles highlighted keywords throughout body text: green for interface elements like "Menu" and "Command Palette", yellow for performance claims, purple for technology names. This technique makes marketing copy feel like readable code, reinforcing the product's developer focus.

The embedded terminal screenshot extends this language into product demonstration. It shows the actual application with its own dark theme, file tree, code pane, and status bar—visually continuous with the page that contains it. The screenshot includes details like menu dropdowns, syntax-colored code, and build status messages, presenting the product in its natural habitat.

No gradients, shadows, or rounded corners appear in the interface. Surfaces are flat, edges are sharp, and depth is created through color contrast alone. The overall effect is austere but intentional—every element serves communication rather than decoration.

## Responsive behavior

The single-column layout with centered content adapts naturally to narrower viewports. The hero logo, being pixel-art, should maintain its aspect ratio without interpolation blur—scaling by whole multiples or using `image-rendering: pixelated` preserves the intended aesthetic.

The installation grid's two-column layout should collapse to a single column on narrow screens, stacking the four methods vertically. This maintains readability of the command strings without horizontal scrolling.

The terminal screenshot will require horizontal scrolling or scaling on narrow viewports due to its fixed internal aspect ratio. Consider allowing overflow scroll with a subtle fade indicator, or provide a click-to-expand interaction that shows the screenshot at full resolution in a modal or dedicated view.

Tag pills in the hero may wrap to multiple lines on very narrow screens. The vertical bar separators should remain inline with their adjacent text rather than breaking to new lines alone.

## Practical implementation guidance

### Preserve
- The pure black canvas and monochrome base with sparse accent colors
- Monospace typography throughout, including headings and body text
- Pixel-art logo rendered without anti-aliasing or smoothing
- Syntax-highlighting color assignments for inline keywords
- Sharp edges and zero border-radius on all interface elements
- The embedded terminal screenshot as social proof and demonstration

### Avoid
- Adding gradients, shadows, or dimensional effects that contradict the flat terminal aesthetic
- Introducing proportional fonts that break the monospace identity
- Rounding corners on buttons, cards, or containers
- Expanding the accent palette beyond the established syntax-highlighting set
- Light mode without careful reconsideration of the entire color system

### Recommended build order
1. Establish the black canvas and monospace font stack
2. Implement the hero logo with pixel-perfect rendering
3. Build the tag pill row with correct color assignments
4. Create the feature block component with heading, body, and inline keyword styling
5. Implement the installation grid with two-column layout
6. Add the terminal screenshot with appropriate framing and responsive handling
7. Fine-tune spacing rhythm between sections

### Accessibility
- Ensure the green accent on black meets minimum contrast ratios for text; the current green (`#1abc9c`) against black exceeds WCAG AA for large text but should be verified for smaller sizes
- Provide focus indicators that are visible against the black canvas, likely using the accent colors with outline styles
- The terminal screenshot contains important product information; include descriptive alt text or an adjacent text summary of what the screenshot demonstrates
- Consider adding a skip link or table of contents for the stacked feature sections

## Scope note

This guide covers the landing page for Fresh as visible in the supplied images. The terminal screenshot's internal UI colors are described for visual context but not fully tokenized as site-wide values. Measurements are practical adaptation targets. No mobile layout, animation, form interactions, or additional pages are represented in the source material. The embedded editor's complete color theme, menu system behavior, and file explorer interactions are shown but not specified as reusable components.
